Car Diagnostics & Check Engine Light Diagnosis in Englewood, CO
A check engine light tells you something is wrong — it doesn't tell you what. At eForce Automotive Service, a car diagnostic means finding the actual cause, not just reading a code and guessing at parts. If you're looking for a car diagnostic near me in Littleton, Sheridan or the south Denver metro, bring your car to our shop. We scan every system, test the components the codes point to, and give you written findings and a clear repair quote before any work begins.
Check engine light on? Get the cause, not just a code
A trouble code like P0300 or P0171 is a starting point. The same code can come from a spark plug, a vacuum leak, a fuel problem, a sensor, a wiring fault or a module. Replacing the part named in a code description is how drivers end up spending money and still seeing the light come back.
A real check engine light diagnostic follows the evidence: we read the codes, look at the data the car recorded when the fault happened, test the suspected system and confirm the failed part before recommending a repair.
What our diagnostic includes

Code scan & freeze-frame data
We connect professional scan equipment and read codes from all modules — engine, transmission, ABS, airbag, body and more — not just the engine computer. Freeze-frame data shows engine speed, temperature, load and other conditions at the moment the fault was stored.
Live data & system tests
We watch sensors and actuators in real time and run the system tests your car supports. This shows whether a sensor is actually reporting wrong, or reporting correctly about a real problem elsewhere.
Electrical/wiring checks
Many faults are electrical: a broken wire, a corroded connector, a bad ground or low voltage. We test the circuits themselves, not just the codes. For deeper electrical issues, see our auto electrical repair service.
Written findings & repair quote
You get a plain-language explanation of what we found, what caused it, and what it takes to fix — with a clear quote. You decide whether to go ahead.
Warning lights we diagnose
Check engine (steady vs flashing)
A steady check engine light means a fault has been detected; get it checked soon. A flashing check engine light usually means the engine is misfiring badly enough to damage the catalytic converter — reduce speed, avoid hard acceleration and stop driving as soon as you safely can.
ABS / traction control
An ABS or traction control light can come from wheel speed sensors, wiring, the ABS module or low voltage. Your normal brakes typically still work, but anti-lock and stability functions may be off. If the ABS module needs replacement, we handle module programming in-house.
Airbag/SRS
An airbag light means the restraint system has a fault and may not deploy. See our airbag / SRS light repair page.
Battery/charging
A battery light usually points to the alternator, belt, wiring or battery. We test the whole charging system under load.

Symptoms that need a diagnosis
Not every problem turns on a light. Bring your car in for a car diagnostic test if you notice:
- No-start or hard starting — cranks but won't fire, or only clicks
- Stalling at idle or when coming to a stop
- Rough idle, hesitation or loss of power
- Intermittent electrical faults — things that work one day and not the next
- Poor fuel economy, unusual smells or smoke
- Shifting problems or a transmission warning
Intermittent problems are the hardest to catch, so tell us exactly when the symptom happens — hot or cold, at what speed, in what weather. That information speeds up diagnosis. Buying a used car? Ask about our pre-purchase inspection. Already have a diagnosis from somewhere else? We also offer a second opinion.

How much does a car diagnostic cost?
A standard vehicle diagnostic typically takes up to 1 hour and costs $100. This includes an initial scan and general diagnosis of the vehicle's systems to identify the likely cause of the problem. If the initial diagnostic indicates that a specific system or control module requires additional in-depth testing, we will discuss it with you before proceeding. Additional diagnostic testing starts at $50 per system/module.
- Initial Diagnostic — $100
- Additional In-Depth Diagnostic — from $50 each (per system/module)
The $100 initial diagnostic is a comprehensive first look at the vehicle, not a promise that every fault will be found within an hour — intermittent or complex problems may need additional in-depth testing, which we always discuss with you first. Once the cause is found, you get a clear quote for the repair before any work begins.
Why a free parts-store code read is not a diagnosis: a handheld reader gives you a code number and a generic description. It doesn't test anything. It can't tell whether the sensor failed or whether the sensor is correctly reporting a problem caused by something else. A diagnosis confirms the cause, so you pay for the right repair once.
All makes — German specialists
We diagnose all makes and models, with a specialty in German cars:
- BMW
- Mercedes-Benz
- Audi
- Volkswagen
- Porsche
These cars have many networked modules and brand-specific fault logic, and generic scanners often miss codes stored outside the engine computer. Our technicians are OEM manufacturer-certified.
Programming capabilities for newer European vehicles, particularly certain Audi, Mercedes-Benz and BMW platforms, may be more limited and must be verified for the specific vehicle and requested service — contact us with your VIN and we'll confirm support before scheduling an appointment.

FAQ
How long does a diagnostic take?
A standard vehicle diagnostic typically takes up to 1 hour. It includes an initial scan and general diagnosis to identify the likely cause. If a specific system or module needs additional in-depth testing, we'll discuss it with you before proceeding.
Is it safe to drive with the check engine light on?
If the light is steady and the car drives normally, it's usually OK to drive it to the shop soon — but don't ignore it, as small faults can turn into expensive ones. If the light is flashing, or you notice overheating, loss of power or smoke, stop driving as soon as it's safe.
What's the difference between a flashing and a steady check engine light?
A steady light means a fault has been stored. A flashing light means an active, serious misfire that can overheat and damage the catalytic converter. Treat flashing as urgent.
How is the repair priced?
The initial diagnostic is $100, and additional in-depth testing starts at $50 per system/module. After diagnosis, we give you a clear quote for the repair based on the parts and labor it needs. Nothing is done without your approval.
Can you diagnose intermittent problems?
Yes. Intermittent faults take more time, so the details you give us — when it happens, how often, in what conditions — matter. We use stored data, live data and wiring tests to catch the fault.
Do I need an appointment?
Yes. We work by appointment only. Call us at 720-790-5857 to schedule your diagnostic.
